I was excited for many months about reading this book. It was a good read, but I was still disappointed in it. Maybe it was all the good things I heard about it, and it was well written, it just didn't make my expectations.
Mary is raised in a close-knit community that has a fence surrounding them from Unconsecrated (zombies), then one day the Unconsecrated make it past the fence and into the village. From then survival is key. Finding a place that is save, but at the same time she wants to follow her dream and find the ocean.
With the setting of the book (fenced community, fenced pathways leading away from the village), you know there's not a whole lot that can happen. It's unknown to where the pathways go to, so you're blindly following paths with unknown markings, hoping to find a save place (or even the ocean).
