Tomorrow I will have more details up! Are you excited? I am!!! What 4 items would you want to win the most? I am having a hard time deciding.

I know an extra laptop would be nice. That way my son has his own to do his homework on. I take mine with me to work so I can get ready for more days of work and then he can't do anything until I come home.

The outdoor weekend getaway would be a treat. I only had 1 day off work during the month of July, and now I have to wait until August 8th for a day off. That will put me at 25 days straight.

The Pet Lovers would be good for Sasha (pit bull) and Molly (bulldog). I think I would save that til Christmas tho!

I would also pick the digital camera package as one of my favs.  I love to take photos, but all I have is my phone. A friend of mine took some great pics of my son at the zoo a few years ago and the other day I ordered some canvases of those pics. Would love to add more.

I can't wait to hear what everyone else would want to win!

Don't forget to stop back by for the details of the sweepstakes!

Torn by K.A. Robinson

Two people with battered souls are thrust together unexpectedly, leaving a profound impact on each other’s lives.

In K.A. Robinson’s USA Today bestselling debut novel, Torn,Chloe hasn’t had the easiest childhood. With a mother who was absent most of the time, she practically had to raise herself. Determined to start a new life and leave her demons behind, she heads to West Virginia University with her best friends Amber and Logan. On the first day of classes, she spots a student who takes her breath away. Drake is a pierced, tattooed bad boy, and no matter how hard she tries to fight it, he’s all she can think about.

Drake has never cared about anyone other than himself, but when Chloe takes the empty seat next to him in class, he is instantly drawn to her. Drake is left wondering whether this girl can take his cold, womanizing heart and alter him forever.

Falling for each other was never a part of their plan, and when it happens, things do anything but fall into place. Long-hidden feelings are revealed and friendships are tested to the brink as Chloe and Drake become helplessly entwined in each other’s love.

My Review

LOVED this book! I finished it in a day. Tattoos. Piercings. Bad Boy. Chloe takes a seat next to Drake on her first day in class at WVU. Now she can't get her mind off of him. She sees again again later, and finds out he is the lead singer in a band.  Drake isn't one to have a relationship. He goes through the women, the groupies, with no thoughts about after. He is feeling a connection to Chloe, like she feels with him. Once they start to to fall for each other, enters the "triangle". You knew that was bound to happen.

Tempers, sex, love, hate.....come get it all in Torn! Come see their mistakes, and journey they made to end up where they did.

As with all books there are downsides. I did find that Chloe was too emotional. Cried a lot (which I do when it comes to books, just not IRL...hehe). There were things that she did in the book, that could have been handled better, but at the same time she is young. Starting her first year in college. I know I had done things around that age that could have been handled better or just not done it at all. Life is for exploring and learning. She made her mistakes, the best is to learn from it and correct it if you can.

I would have loved to have the story from Drakes POV as well as Chloe's. I think it would have made this book even better!

Something to look forward do

I budget my paychecks to see what has to be paid, what I have to work with. I have been counting down to getting my car paid off. I really excited! If I budgeted right, I will have it paid off on the 2nd of August!

Now it's not the best car, I will start getting everything fixed once I get it paid off. It does get me to and from work, and that's what I want. I don't plan on getting a new one. I am going to enjoy not having payments. It will be mine. All mine.

November 2011 my car quit. I bought a 91 or 93 Toyota Camry. The ugliest car I had ever owned. I bought it for $200. It was a good car. I didn't care that it was ugly. It was mine, paid for. There had been an oil leak. It was slow. I had forgotten to check it for 2 weeks. I was on the interstate when the knocking started. Needless to say, I didn't have the money to fix it. I was only working part time, at that time. A friend of mine, who happened to be my neighbor, would give me a ride to work when she went into work, and would pick me up when she was done. My job at the time was flexible enough with my schedule it worked out pretty good. This went on for 3 months. In February 2012 I had a little bit saved up and started looking to where I could get a new car. My credit sucks, and have a low down payment  Only places I could get a car at is a "buy here, pay here" place. I found one car lot in town that worked with me to get me into a car. That car is my 2005 Chevy Classic (Malibu). It was great that they worked with me and got me into something that day instead of waiting another week for my next check. I had also been putting in job apps at the time to find full-time work. Would definitely need my own vehicle to work 2 jobs. The same day I got my car, I also accepted a position as front desk at a hotel (not the hotel I am at now). I did it backwards and accepted the position before I knew for sure I was getting the car. It all worked out in the end.

In 2 weeks I hope to post the good news that the car is paid off!

Left Drowning by Jessica Park

Left Drowning

What does it take to rise from life’s depths, swim against the current, and breathe?Weighted down by the loss of her parents, Blythe McGuire struggles to keep her head above water as she trudges through her last year at Matthews College. Then a chance meeting sends Blythe crashing into something she doesn’t expect—an undeniable attraction to a dark-haired senior named Chris Shepherd, whose past may be even more complicated than her own. As their relationship deepens, Chris pulls Blythe out of the stupor she’s been in since the night a fire took half her family. She begins to heal, and even, haltingly, to love this guy who helps her find new paths to pleasure and self-discovery. But as Blythe moves into calmer waters, she realizes Chris is the one still strangled by his family’s traumatic history. As dark currents threaten to pull him under, Blythe may be the only person who can keep him from drowning.*This book is intended for mature audiences due to strong language and sexual content.

My Review

I have been reading more of the New Adult (NA) books here lately. This book pulls you in, and keeps you in the story. I loved Blythe and Chris. Each have dealt with their own family past, and learn to come to terms with it throughout the book. I really enjoyed the twist that came with each of their history. There is so much emotion throughout the story. It's hard not to get sucked into the book!

Blythe has been in her own stupor since the death of her parents. If you had not read the synopsis before reading the book, the beginning may be a bit confusing. I hadn't read it since I requested the book from Net Galley, and reading the first few pages I wasn't sure what was up. The further I read, the more I understood.

Since the death of her parents, Blythe hasn't seen much meaning to life. She doesn't have much in the way of family. She has a younger brother, and her aunt that took her in. Throughout the story you learn about the guilt she is left with when it comes to the night of her parents death. During her last year of college she meets Chris Shepard, and he helps pull her out of her stupor. He is able to bring her out of a place that she has been for the past few years, something that Blythe wasn't sure could happen.

GIVEAWAY: Music of the Heart by Katie Ashley

Music of the Heart (Runaway Train, #1)

For Abby Renard, the plan was supposed to be simple—join her brothers’ band on the last leg of their summer tour and decide if she’s finally ready for the limelight by becoming its fourth member. Of course, she never imagined stumbling onto the wrong tour bus at Rock Nation would accidentally land her in the bed of Jake Slater, the notorious womanizing lead singer of Runaway Train. When he mistakes her for one of his groupie’s, Abby quickly lets him know she sure as hell isn't in his bed on purpose.

Jake Slater never imagined the angel who fell into his bed would resist his charms by promptly kneeing him in the balls. Of course, the fact she seems like a prissy choir girl makes her anything but his type. So he is more than surprised when after betting Abby she wouldn’t last a week on their tour bus, she is more than willing to prove him wrong. But as Jake’s personal life begins to implode around him, he finds an unlikely ally in Abby. He’s never met a woman he can talk to, joke with, or most importantly make music with.

As the week starts comes to a close, neither Abby nor Jake is ready to let go. Can a sweetheart Country songstress and a bad boy of Rock N Roll actually have a future together?

My trip to Australia

I just got back from Australia. It was about a 2 month trip spent in Pipers Cove, a wonderful small town. Now my first day there it was pouring down rain. Walking out to my car I almost got ran over! But, am I ever so glad that it happened! I met "Boy Wonder"! Did I mention he is part French? There started what was probably the best 2 months of my life. I experienced love, sorrow, anger, contentment. I laughed and cried, felt brave, and sometimes unsure.

I experienced all this within 8 days. Now, how did I spent 2 months in Australia in 8 days?

Saving Wishes by GJ Walker-Smith. Charlotte (better known as Charli) is 17 years old and lives in Piper's Cove, Tasmania. Not much happens in that small town. She lives with her brother, Alex. Do You Want Your Child to be Betrothed?

Well, of course not at such a young age, but when they are older? Check out the beautiful story "Why I Want My Children To Be Betrothed" from Blessed in Homemaking

I can understand the beauty of doing something like this, but at the same time it's not for everyone. It's not for me. I want to know more before I would marry someone. I want to know if we are sexually compatible. If living together will be comfortable. At this moment of my life I wouldn't share a house with a man, but we would have to live together for a bit before I would even think of marriage.

I have noticed as I have gotten older that what I would want has changed a bit. For those of you who don't know me, I recently turned 30, I am a single homeschooling mother to a 10 year old. I have lots of family support that has made it possible for me to work just one job (a job I love even though it's not the best paying). My mother lives with me and it allows me to homeschool my son while working a night audit position. Right now I couldn't even imagine dating!

Now if I did date, I want someone who has their own place and a job. I will not let anyone else live in this house. I want to know he can take care of himself. I have dated 2 too many that wouldn't work. Someone that likes to go camping, can understand I'm not a bitch or stuck up I just don't talk around people I don't know. I'm not a social person, but love being around my friends. If I'm around people I don't know (outside of the hotel I work at), I am uncomfortable. My child comes first, always. I also do not want to have any more children, so preferably he should already have his own already or doesn't mind not having any of his own. - So....is that asking too much? :-D

With everything that is going on with life I just couldn't see dating right now. Maybe in a few years or 10. I also have no problems (right now anyhow) with being alone the rest of my life. I do know that if I was to ever get married, I really don't want a wedding. I don't want people looking at me while I'm trying to walk straight down an isle! Being the center of attention is not my idea of fun!

LoL I went off there rambling, huh? Back to the subject of children....

For my son I just want him to be happy with he is. I want him to be comfortable with the thought that he may meet his love of his life the first time, and will be with that person and that person only. He will also need to be comfortable with the thought that he may not find that person the first time. Any relationships he may have before finding love, he should realize that it was an opportunity to learn more about himself, relationships, and life.

Giveaway and review! Lick (Stage Dive #1) by Kylie Scott

I finished reading Lick a few days ago. I haven't stopped thinking about it since! It is one of my favorite books for 2013. I am now offering up one e-copy of Lick. Read my review below and then be sure to enter! Giveaway runs until July 4th. The winner will have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen.

Lick (Stage Dive, # 1)

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.
One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.

My Review

Oh goodness! Yummyness! Whatever “-ness” you would like to add! I devoured Lick in one day! I just couldn’t put it down! A barista and a hot tattooed rock god makes for a great book! The action, the romance, the lust, the hurt…..It was all very addicting!

The Stage Dive series  is a NA contemporary/realistic fiction, with Lick being the first book. I enjoy NA as much as I do YA. You make have read Scott’s other series, Flesh, but this was my first by her.

Evelyn Thomas is a 21-year old barista/college student. The story begins at her 21st birthday in Vegas. She gets hammered, and the next day cannot remember much of what happened. She wakes up in the bathroom, and shortly enters the hot tattooed rock god himself, David Ferris. With that comes the bit of news that they had gotten married the night before…now making her Mrs. Evelyn Ferris.

All marriages have their ups and downs throughout it, but how does it work when you don’t even know the person that you are now married to? And to top it off your new husband is a famous rock god. Now enters the “A” word…annulment. When that doesn’t go as planned things start quickly changing. Now is the true test. When your worlds are completely different, can a marriage make it?

Both Evelyn and David have great personalities, and I truly enjoyed getting to know them in the book. Even the other characters had their own personalities, that even though they were different from each other, they all fit together.

I do think that the book would have be SOOO much better if there had been more to it. I’m not saying that it lacked anything. I would have liked the book to have been a bit longer, just so it would have lasted longer!
Gook luck and happy reading!

The Island by Jen

The Island by Jen Minkman

The Island

‘I walk toward the sea. The endless surface of the water extends to the horizon, whichever way I look.
Our world is small. We are on our own, and we only have ourselves to depend on. We rely on the Force deep within us, as taught to us by our forefathers.

If I were to walk westward from here, I would come across a barrier – the Wall. Behind it, there are Fools. At least, that’s what everyone says.

I have never seen one.’

Leia lives on the Island, a world in which children leave their parents to take care of themselves when they are ten years old. Across this Island runs a wall that no one has ever crossed. The Fools living behind it are not amenable to reason – they believe in illusions. That’s what The Book says, the only thing left to the Eastern Islanders by their ancestors.
But when a strange man washes ashore and Leia meets a Fool face to face, her life will never be the same. Is what she and her friends believe about the Island really true?

Or is everyone in their world, in fact, a Fool?

(Please note: this novella contains a few references to the famous sci-fi movie Star Wars which are pivotal to the plot. None of the characters in The Island are in any way related to the characters in the movie. Leia is named after one of the ancient heroes of her culture/religion.)
Paperback, 105 pages

My Review

Can you imagine leaving home at the age of ten, or your child leaving at the age of 10? For many years that is what happens with a child turns 10. My son just turned 10 in May and I couldn't imagine him leaving home now.

At just over 100 page this is a simple short read , but it was very good. Being a Star Wars fan, I liked the references it made to SW. This dystopian novel would be great for a variety of ages. I am 30 and enjoyed it, I think I will use this for my 10 year old this fall in his reading list (we homeschool). I do wish it had been longer!

Once Leia and her twin brother turn 10 they sent to live at the Manor with other children ages 10-19. They start questioning their "leader" at the Manor. A turn of events starts Leia questioning everything she has ever known. She meets a Fool (someone from the other side of The Wall), and then the truth starts unraveling

Sometimes I will pick a book by it's cover, if I had seen this in the store I would get it based on the book. I love the stormy looking water with the girl standing waist deep in it. It fits the story.

Follow Leia's journey in The Island, and you won't be disappointed!

The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abe

The Sweetest Dark (The Sweetest Dark, #1)

The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abe

“With every fiber of my being, I yearned to be normal. To glide through my days at Iverson without incident. But I’d have to face the fact that my life was about to unfold in a very, very different way than I’d ever envisioned. Normal would become forever out of reach.”

Lora Jones has always known that she’s different. On the outside, she appears to be an ordinary sixteen-year-old girl. Yet Lora’s been keeping a heartful of secrets: She hears songs that no one else can hear, dreams vividly of smoke and flight, and lives with a mysterious voice inside her that insists she’s far more than what she seems.

England, 1915. Raised in an orphanage in a rough corner of London, Lora quickly learns to hide her unique abilities and avoid attention. Then, much to her surprise, she is selected as the new charity student at Iverson, an elite boarding school on England’s southern coast. Iverson’s eerie, gothic castle is like nothing Lora has ever seen. And the two boys she meets there will open her eyes and forever change her destiny.

Jesse is the school’s groundskeeper—a beautiful boy who recognizes Lora for who and what she truly is. Armand is a darkly handsome and arrogant aristocrat who harbors a few closely guarded secrets of his own. Both hold the answers to her past. One is the key to her future. And both will aim to win her heart. As danger descends upon Iverson, Lora must harness the powers she’s only just begun to understand, or else lose everything she dearly loves.

Filled with lush atmosphere, thrilling romance, and ancient magic, The Sweetest Dark brilliantly captures a rich historical era while unfolding an enchanting love story that defies time.
352 pages Published April 2nd 2013 by Bantam

My Review

I really enjoyed reading The Sweetest Dark. I love that it is set in the early 1900s during the war. Lora lives in a London orphanage and has been chosen for a spot at the girls boarding school, Iverson. She is leaving the city for a smaller place, snotty girls, and for a chance for a better future.

The Sweetest Dark flows wonderfully through the book. Lora, who doesn't know anything about her past, learns more about herself throughout the book. She grows into herself, defining who she is. There are no inappropriate scenes or language. There is an atypical love triangle. This one I actually really enjoyed reading about. It's not the mainstream love triangle you may find in a lot of recent young adult books.

I didn't know anything about the book when I started it. A lot of the time I will go into a book not knowing what it is about when I start it. This was another one. For a bit I wasn't sure what Lora was. She could hear the music of metal and stone. She was pale, with pale hair and eyes. I had different thoughts, and was pleasantly surprised by everything!

Out of This Place

Out Of This Place

**From Goodreads**
A powerful novel in verse captures the voices of three teens as they struggle against hardscrabble realities — and move toward their dreams.

Luke spends his days hanging out at the beach, working shifts at the local supermarket, and trying to stay out of trouble at school. His mate Bongo gets wasted, blocking out memories of the little brother that social services took away from his addict mom and avoiding the stepdad who hits him. And Casey, the girl they both love, longs to get away from her strict, controlling father and start anew in a place where she can be free. But even after they each find a way to move on and lead very different lives, can they outrun their family stories — and will they ever be able to come together again? Set in Australia and narrated in alternating points of view, here is an affecting look at the evolving lives of three friends from talented new author Emma Cameron.

My Review

This book was first published a year ago under the name Cinnamon Rain. The new title is much more fitting. When starting to read this story, I didn't think I would like it. It is written in prose (I don't care for), and it lacks a lot of details (which I love lots of). The time went by quickly through out each person's story. I did end up enjoying Out of this Place. You follow the lives of Luke, Casey, and Bongo. They are 3 friends in the last few years of high school in Australia. They each follow their own paths through life. Making decisions that affect how their lives will turn out.

Itis a wonderful story of growing up, leaning about making decisions that will affect your life. All 3 characters comes from a different background and want out of the situation they are in, for different reasons. They take their paths in completely different ways, and look for where they belong.

My Review

Evanescent is a YA paranormal story that follows Bronwen Snow and a trio of vampires that are protecting her from something that is after her. This was a great read, that isn't too long. It can be read in a day or 2. The storyline kept me captive throughout the entire book! I just didn't want to put it down!
The one thing that I love about reading, it characters can be any way you want them! The trio of teenage boys seemed to kept the same thinking as they had when they were growing up. Most characters that have lived for a very long time get mature along the way. These boys didn't, and it fits them (and the story) perfectly.
I do hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!
Happy reading!

My Review

Grab a box of tissues before you start Dare You To. It is one of the best books I have read this year, but let me tell you, I bawled like a baby in some parts. You feel what Beth and Ryan are going through. This book couldn't have been put together any better than it is. The story is told through the eyes of both Ryan and Beth.

They each come from different homes, with their own problems. They first meet through a dare between Ryan and his friends. What starts as a dare turns into so much more.

Once the ball starts rolling each has decisions to make that will greatly effect their lives. Ryan is dealing with hiding a family secret, pretending in public that his family isn't breaking up, and what to do with his future.
Beth has to decide to help her mother. If she's left along too long her boyfriend Trent may give her a beating that she won't be able to recover from. She also knows that if it's not her mother he kills it may be her. Given a chance for a new beginning in a new town, she now has to decide what path to take.

Stung by Bethany Wiggins

There is no cure for being stung.

Fiona doesn’t remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered—her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right hand—a black oval with five marks on either side—that she doesn’t remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost. She’s right.

Those bearing the tattoo have turned into mindless, violent beasts that roam the streets and sewers, preying upon the unbranded while a select few live protected inside a fortress-like wall, their lives devoted to rebuilding society and killing all who bear the mark.

Now Fiona has awakened branded, alone—and on the wrong side of the wall.

My Review

I couldn't imagine waking up and everything and one you knew was gone. This is what happened to Fiona. Not only is her family gone, but even the outside world is different.

If it hadn't have been for working and planning my son's curriculum I would have not put this book down from the time I started it until I finished it! It is a really great book! Stung is the first book I read by Bethany Wiggins, and I was not disappointed one bit. The plot was awesome, and it had just the right amount of action and most importantly no love triangle! Stung is something you could see happening to our world one day. If you like YA and/or dystopian, read Stung!

I had posted this review on my other blog a few months ago. Today I received an e-mail from Discovery with an article called "How Killer Bees Kill". It made me think of Stung by Bethany Wiggins.

My Review

I read The Earth is for Dancing in about a day. It is a wonderful book that allows you to feel what Sam is going through. Determination and hard work is what Sam faces each day to take care of her grandmother. She does what she has to do to keep her family (herself and her grandmother) together.  In addition to her responsibility to care for her grandmother, Sam is dealing with bullying in school. After years of getting by, her secret is out, and now she has to do everything possible to make sure they aren't split up.

It seems as if much thought and information gathering was done to pull the book together. I was able to experience Sam's life right along with her. All the ups and downs. At times it seemed as if there could be more details put into the story, but I still enjoyed it none the less.

Updates over the next few months

I am moving to California at the end of May, just after my birthday. Between now and then some things will change. I won't be posting as much of the other giveaways. I will be posting more DIY things on here, as we will be trying to live healthier than we have been.

I took a trip a couple weeks ago to visit a friend of mine and go for an interview. We went down to the beach and realized how out of shape I am. I thought the walk back up to the boardwalk was going to kill me! :D I'm a smoker and asthmatic on top of being overweight. Right now I'm going to concentrate on watching what I eat and exercising. After I get on top of that I will worry about my smoking.

I also plan on trying a few recipes on homemade dishwashing tabs, laundry detergent, etc. I even plan on trying to start a small garden once I get moved. It won't be until September that I will be in a house, but I can try something small at the apartment.

I am very excited about the changes that will be going on in my life. I have spent most of my life in Arkansas, and love the scenery here. I don't love our weather.

So I think it's time for a change in our life, to see where this path is going to take us........

Low Cost Birthday

My son's birthday is coming up in about 2 months, and I am looking to have a low-cost birthday for him. We usually don't have a birthday party. We take a trip to Tulsa since his birthday, Mother's Day, and my birthday are all within a week or 2 of each other. This year is going to be a bit different. With my trip next week to Los Angeles and Anaheim and then my trip at the end of May to NYC I am trying to figure out how to do his birthday this year. He will be 10 years old.

The birthday trip will be postponed until the end of June. I haven't decided were we will go. Maybe to Memphis. We went to the zoo on the way back from Alabama, but it was a very quick walk-through. Normally we spend at least 3-5 hours at a zoo. This time we spent MAYBE 2 hours. I will have to see what else is in Memphis to do with kids. It's a 5 hour drive so maybe I will take a pen and make a 5 hour circumference and see where he would want to go.

He will still receive his birthday present(s) on his birthday. To cover the costs of this I will use the Amazon credits I have received free this year. This should come out to around $60. He his really into Pokémon.

He isn't big on cakes, so I will just make one at home. I rather would have a cookie cake, but that is me!

If interested in earning free Amazon credits yourself check out the "Rewards" tab. These are the various programs that I use. After his birthday I will save for our vacation in the fall and Christmas.
