Bullying and Slap Dash Things

Have you or your child ever dealt with bullying? Whether it's emotional, physical, or mental....it can affect people to the point of suicide. It's not something that needs to be ignored. Many schools have a policy in place for bullying, but it is not always helpful. What do you do when the school won't help? Slap Dash Mom had problems getting her daughter's school to help. You can read her story HERE.

Janelle, 11 years old, from Slap Dash Things (daughter of Slap Dash Mom) is donating a $1 from each sale to anti-bullying organizations. Check out her Etsy shop! I love the earrings!

Lets do what we can to help STOP bullying. Our children (as well as ourselves) should NEVER have to go through it.

Popcorn Seasonings

Plain, buttered, caramel, cheddar.....These are just a few ways some people like their popcorn. I have decided to make a list of various seasonings that can be used to make popcorn more flavorful. Feel free to add to the list.

Taco Seasoning
Cinnamon/sugar over (melted) butter
Parmesean Cheese
Dry packaged ranch
Italian Seasoning
White cheddar
Pumpkin spice
Apple pie spices

Popcorn Balls

Best Ever Popcorn Balls

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the corn syrup, margarine, cold water, confectioners' sugar and marshmallows. Heat and stir until the mixture comes to a boil. Carefully combine the hot mixture with the popcorn, coating each kernel.
  2. Grease hands with vegetable shortening and quickly shape the coated popcorn into balls before it cools. Wrap with cellophane or plastic wrap and store at room temperature.

National Popcorn Day - Activities

Today is National Popcorn Day! Are you a fan of popcorn? How do you like yours? When I go to the movies I love extra butter or cheese. Throughout the day you will find popcorn recipes, crafts, and more! First we will start off with some activities.

Popcorn Art

Put out a bag of popped popcorn along with construction paper and art supplies-challenge children to come up with some creative art using the popcorn!
Dancing Popcorn

Fill a clear cup  3/4 full with vinegar.  Add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Drop in a few kernels of un-popped popcorn.  Watch as the kernels rise and fall.
Popcorn Garlands for birds

If you leave popcorn out for a few days, it will get stale and hold together better when strung. String popcorn with thread and needle. You can also add berries, dried fruits, nuts, and seeds, between the popcorn. Hang the popcorn garlands on tree branches outside for the birds.

Growing Popcorn in a Bag
Instructions: Take a plastic zip-loc baggie, put cotton balls in it and saturate cotton balls with water. Put popcorn kernels into the bag; seal it and tape to a window. Add water as needed and watch the plants grow. Transfer to potting soil later.

    Free Glasses

If it is time for a new pair of glasses I have a couple of great sites you should check out.

I have ordered 2 pair from Coastal, on 2 seperate occasions. I love them both! Neither one I paid more than $13 for (shipping).First time Use the code FIRSTPAIRFREE to get your first pair for the price of shipping. Once in a while they will come out with more codes for free pairs. That is how I scored a 2nd pair for free!

Another site I haven't used, but since I'm due for a new eye exam I may order from them.

This has pretty much the same offer as Coastal. I will be ordering from Firmoo in February and will give a review on them. Until then, let me know what you think!

    New Years Resolution: Weightloss

Each year many people make a New Years Resolution to lose weight. I know I have many times just for it not to last very long. How about a New Years Resolution to be healthier. That would be soooooo much easier than stating to lose weight. Much easier to do. I know I will TRY to get myself healthier. My weight and smoking are a big factor of my being so unhealthy. I drink lots of soda too.

Each day I will post something related to getting yourself healthier, or I will try to remember to!

Here are my current stats of my unhealthiness (including weight and measurements).

Soda - 5 cans per day
    Smoking - 1 pack a day
    Weight - 221.5 lbs
    Waist - 45.5"
    Hips - 47"
    Thigh - 28"
    Upper arm - 15.5"
    Neck - 16.75"
    Calf - 17.5"

One of my rewards for weightloss are 2 pairs of boots. I already own them, but cant get them over my calves! They measure 16" and 17". Hope to wear them by next fall!

    What are your resolutions?
